October is nonfiction for the Thursday night book group, and I was casting about for something FUN. Since that will be about the time we’ll be wrapping up our One Book, One Community programming for this year, I decided it would be appropriate and (more to the point) enjoyable to read a book about books. Not a book about books as objects, though — a book about the multifarious joys of reading. A book about being addicted to story, if you will.

Here’s the list I compiled for my book group peeps to vote on. They have a couple of weeks to express their preferences. I’ll report back and let you know the outcome.

My Reading Life
by Pat Conroy

Books: A Memoir
by Larry McMurtry

So Many Books, So Little Time: A Year of Passionate Reading
by Sara Nelson

The Reading Promise: My Father and the Books We Shared
by Alice Ozma

How Reading Changed My Life
by Anna Quindlen
